Question : Which of the following statements is not true about enzyme inhibitors ?

(1) Inhibit the catalytic activity of the enzyme.

(2) Prevent the binding of substrate.

(3) Generally a strong covalent bond is formed between an inhibitor and an enzyme.

(4) Inhibitors can be competitive or non competitive.

Answer : In all above options the correct answer is (3) Generally a strong covalent bond is formed between an inhibitor and an enzyme.

Detail explanation of answer : When Enzyme inhibitors and an enzyme interact to each other than they formed bond and these bond may be covalent or non-covalent bond that is depend on their binding type , these can be bind reversibly and irreversibly.

If Enzyme inhibitors and an enzyme bind together reversibly than they formed non-covalent bond and on other hand if they bind irreversibly with covalent bond.

enzyme inhibitors does not formed strong covalent , because they just decreases the enzyme’s catalytic efficiency by just forming some bond but these bond are not strong in nature , if they formed strong bond than the speed not decreased but also can stop the reaction. so we can say that may be they formed covalent bond but these are not strong in nature. so in all above statements the 3rd statement Generally a strong covalent bond is formed between an inhibitor and an enzyme statement is not true about enzyme inhibitors.
